Halloween Charcuterie Board

The witching season is close at hand and if you’re (g)hosting a Halloween gathering, this post is your boo best friend. Seriously though, you don’t need to be an artist or party planner to nail these easy Halloween Charcuterie Board ideas. The fun thing about Halloween is that you can let your creativity go wild!

What you do need is a microwave (to melt the candy melts), a piping bag (to drizzle the melted candy melts), a knife, and a decent sized board to hold it all. I suggest something black or dark gray (like slate) to go along with the dark and creepy theme.

Pro tip: You can find appropriately sized slate tiles at Home Depot and other hardware stores.

For this board, I went with a meatless charcuterie board, or snack board. You can add your favourite sausage, cured meat, or Halloween Deviled Eggs to add more protein to the platter.

However, this combination of sweet, savoury, cheesy, and sour is sure to please even the pickiest crowd. There’s something for everyone!

What Goes on a Halloween Charcuterie Board?

The star of the show is an entire wheel of brie cheese cut to look like Jack Skellington. It’s quite simple to do and all you need is a knife, a spoon, some blackberry jam, and a black edible pen (or use a piping bag filled with the blackberry jam).

Additionally, simply place black olive slices on mozzarella balls, or bocconcini. Simple cubes of your favourite hard cheese round out the cheese options. Don’t forget to serve a selection of crackers on the side!

Suggested ingredients to make a fun and frightful Halloween Charcuterie Board.

Frightful fruit options include mummy strawberries with candy eyes and fanged mouths made from slices of red apple held together with peanut butter with marshmallow teeth. For something a little spookier, use almond slivers as teeth. Scatter moody black grapes, blueberries, and blackberries all over the board as tasty ‘fillers’.

Finally, add in some small pickles (cornichons), pickled onions, or black olives for a sour component. If you like, you can add Halloween themed candy too. There are no rules for a Halloween Charcuterie Board.

How to Make a Halloween Charcuterie Board

Make the Strawberry Mummies

To make the strawberry mummies, melt the candy melts in a small mixing bowl, in 30 second increments in the microwave. Dip each strawberry then place on a wax paper sheet. Working quickly press the candy eyes onto each strawberry.

Spoon the remaining melted candy melts into a resealable bag. Snip the corner and drizzle over the
strawberry to make it look like a mummy. *Remelt the candy melts if needed.

Make the Fanged Mouths

To make the fanged mouths, slice the apples (to look like lips) and dip in lemon juice. Spoon a little peanut butter onto one side of each. Place two marshmallows (to look like teeth) on a slice and add another apple slice to complete the mouth.

Make the Jack Skellington Brie

To make the Jack Skellington Brie, cut holes into the brie wheel then spoon the blackberry jam into the holes. Use black gel or a food marker to draw the mouth, nose, and eyes of Jack Skellington.

Putting it All Together on the Board

Arrange everything on dark platter, a large plate or baking sheet. Get creative with decorating. Lay slices of olives on top of the mozzarella balls, to look like eyeballs. Add dark grapes and scatter the blackberries.

Other Halloween Charcuterie Board Ideas

  • use props like plastic spiders, skeleton hands, or dark cloth underneath
  • peel mandarin oranges and add a sliver of green cucumber skin for a stem to make pumpkins
  • shape meats like “meat roses” or use cookie cutters for ghost-shaped cheese
  • add Witch Finger Breadsticks or Mummified Oreo Cream Cheese Truffles
  • drizzle jam or honey for a “bloody” effect!
  • add various Halloween Deviled Egg characters
  • mix in some cool Halloween treats like candy or gummy eyes or worms, candy pumpkins, marshmallow ghosts, or candy corn.

Make Ahead and Storage Instructions

To make ahead, you can do each component and store them separately in airtight containers overnight in the fridge. The next day, arrange the Halloween Charcuterie Board as desired.

To store leftovers, either keep the platter and cover with plastic wrap to store in the refrigerator or divide the leftovers and store individually in their own airtight container. Leftovers will store in the fridge for up to 1 week.
