Last week was a bit of an emotional rollercoaster. I got some great news to start the week which then turned into a huge letdown. Then, near the end of the week, I got this really super amazing news. I was the freestyle category winner in the Canada wide Canadian Lentils Recipe Revelation Challenge. I was floored and in shock. I never in a million years would have thought I could create an original recipe using an ingredient I barely cook with (except for daal) let alone win a prize for it!
I entered four of the five categories and I did make an attempt at the fifth but I started too late in the competition to finish it. Hey Grazza…it was based on your Pork filet with lentils, tomatoes, and salsa verde. Anyway, here is a rundown of the four recipes I entered in the competition; click the links below each picture for the recipes.
Shrimp Lentil and Turmeric Dumplings
Warm Lentil and White Bean Salad with Bacon and Roasted Grape Tomatoes
Sticky Toffee Pudding with Lentils and Medjool Dates
And the Winner…Best in Freestyle!
Feta, Pea and Dill Quiche with Lentil and Sweet Potato ‘Pastry’
It was a great way to end the week for sure. I knew I was a winner no matter what because in the end I created four lovely recipes and discovered that my family really enjoyed lentils.
Kudos to the other entrants in the contest, there were some amazing looking and very creative recipes. Here are the other category winners:
Appetizers: Coconut Lentil Shrimp by Sugar n’ Stuff
Salads: Sweet Lentil Salad & Greens by Love and Lentils
Mains: Picadillo Lentil Cimichanga by Sugar n’ Stuff
Desserts: Walnut Lentil Cream Pie by sundaycrush
and the Best Overall Lentil Recipe was by The Yum Yum Factor for her Cauliflower Lentil ‘Wings’ Three Ways
Congrats everyone and big thanks to Canadian Lentils for sponsoring this fun and inventive challenge!

Yours was one of the few posts I actually looked at and clicked on. They actually look like wings!
