Kebabs, Kebobs, Skewers, and Satays…Oh My!
I have never met anyone that doesn’t like food on a stick. It’s the ultimate street food, picnic, or backyard barbecue hand held food in many parts of the world. Look a little bit closer and you’ll find this method of grilling meats, vegetables, cheese, fruits, and plant proteins is more complex than you think.
What Is the Difference Between Kebabs and Kebobs?
The difference between Kebabs and Kebobs is pretty simple. Kebabs are grilled meat-only skewers, while Kebobs also contain vegetables threaded in between the meat. Both are popular in many cuisines but especially in the Middle East (originating in Turkey) and Eastern Mediterranean.
Have you tried any of these other worldly kebabs?
- Japan – yakitori, kushiyaki, shioyaki, kabayaki
- France – Brochettes
- Vietnam – Nem nướng
- Chinese – Chuan’r
- Greece – Souvlaki
- Caucasus & Central Asia – shashlik
- South East Asia – satay
- Korea – Kkochi
